An out of date termite notice in the meter box

What the notice tells you, and what to do when its date has passed.

Cobbitty 2570 · 9 September 2026

In short: A building and pest inspection in Horningsea Park found the termite treatment notice in the meter box was well out of date.

Where to look

The termite management notice is normally fixed inside the meter box. It records the system installed and when it should be checked or renewed.

What we found

On a Horningsea Park home the notice showed the expected protection period had passed, so the treatment was unlikely to still be effective.

The buyer's side of an expired notice

You may be buying a home whose protection has lapsed. That is worth knowing before settlement.

What else we saw

Conducive conditions and unsealed penetrations through brickwork were recorded at nearby homes, the sort of entry points lapsed protection leaves open.

Next step

Ask a licensed pest controller to assess the system and quote for renewal, and factor it into your negotiation.

It varies by system and product. The notice states it.

Can you treat the house?
